1.Structure and composition
Insulating glass: It is composed of two or more pieces of glass, with a certain interval maintained between them, and dry air in the interval. It is wrapped around an aluminum frame and bonded together with a composite adhesive. Insulating glass has excellent heat insulation and sound insulation performance, and can reduce the self-weight of buildings by 9%.
Laminated glass: It is made by sandwiched between two or more pieces of float glass with a PVB (polyvinyl butyrate) film. First, place multiple pieces of glass horizontally. Then, put the aluminum alloy spacer bars on the glass plates. Finally, place another piece of glass on the aluminum bars. After adjusting the positions, seal the edges by hand or with a glue machine. Laminated glass has a relatively high level of safety. When the glass is impacted and breaks, the fragments are adhered by PVB and are less likely to cause injury.
2. Performance comparison
Thermal insulation performance: Both have thermal insulation performance, but the thermal insulation effect of insulating glass is slightly better than that of laminated glass.
Sound insulation performance: Laminated glass has relatively good shock resistance. When the wind force is strong, the possibility of self-vibration is very small, especially for medium and low frequencies. However, insulating glass is prone to resonance. However, in terms of blocking external noise, insulating glass performs better.
Safety: Laminated glass has excellent impact resistance and explosion-proof performance, thus it is classified as a type of glass with a relatively high safety factor.
3. Applicable scenarios
For ordinary families: If it is for ordinary use, it is recommended to choose double-glazed glass, as it can already meet the daily needs of doors and Windows in terms of sound insulation, heat insulation and preservation, as well as aesthetics.
High-rise residential buildings: If you live on a high floor with strong winds or in a sunroom area where the noise from the outside is relatively low, it is recommended to choose laminated glass as it offers higher safety.
4. Comprehensive Evaluation
Cost performance: Generally, double-glazed glass is more commonly used in home decoration and is more suitable for ordinary families. However, if the sound insulation effect is taken into account, the sound insulation effect of laminated glass will definitely be superior.
Technical maturity: In recent years, the technology of hollow laminated composite vacuum glass has become quite mature, and its performance far exceeds that of other configurations.
To sum up, both insulating glass and laminated glass have their own characteristics and advantages. The choice of which type of glass to use should be determined based on specific usage requirements and the environment.
