What is freezer door insulated glass?
Freezer door insulated glass is usually based on "double-glazed glass" and incorporates various technologies. The most common structure is three-layer two-chamber (three layers of glass and two spacer layers).
The core requirements and characteristics of freezer door insulated glass
The glass of the freezer door needs to address several key issues simultaneously
Preventing condensation (anti-dew): The interior of the cabinet is at a low temperature (down to -20℃ or below), while the exterior is in a room-temperature and high-humidity environment. The glass surface must remain bright and free of condensation; otherwise, it will affect the display effect.
High-efficiency insulation: Minimize the loss of cold air through the glass door, reduce the working load of the compressor, and achieve the goal of energy conservation and electricity saving.
Stable and safe structure: It can withstand the vibration of frequent opening and closing, and will not cause harm to people or food in case of breakage.
Impact resistance: It can withstand unexpected impacts from shopping carts, baskets, etc.
A typical high-end freezer door glass structure is as follows
From the outside in (from the Warm side to the Cold side) :
- Outer layer glass: It is usually tempered glass with a thickness of 3-4mm.
- Function: Tempering treatment provides extremely high mechanical strength and impact resistance (safety requirements). Even if it is broken by a huge impact, it will shatter into fine obtuse particles and is unlikely to hurt people.
- The first cavity: Fill with dry air or inert gas (such as argon).
- Function: This is the main insulating layer. Gas is a poor conductor of heat and can effectively prevent the exchange of heat between the inside and outside.
- Middle-layer glass: It is usually tempered glass as well, and its inner surface is coated with a special "Low-E film".
Function (key) :
- Low-E film (low-emissivity film) : This layer of metal or oxide coating that is almost invisible to the naked eye can reflect infrared rays like a mirror. It reflects the "cold radiation" of the cold air inside the cabinet back and the "thermal radiation" of the heat outside the cabinet at the same time, thereby greatly enhancing the insulation performance of the glass, which is the core of energy conservation.
- The temperature of this layer of glass is usually between that of the inside and outside, which is the key to the anti-condensation design.
- Second cavity: Also filled with dry air or inert gas.
- Function: Further enhance the overall heat insulation effect and make the glass as a whole more solid.
- Inner layer glass: It is usually tempered glass with a thickness of 3-4mm. In some designs, anti-condensation glass is adopted.
Function
Tempered glass: Ensures the safety of the inner side.
Anti-condensation glass (optional): This is a type of glass in which a strong transparent conductive film (such as ITO film) is formed on the surface through a special process. After being powered on (usually at a safe low voltage), the glass will slightly heat up, bringing its surface temperature close to the dew point, thus completely preventing the formation of condensation water and keeping the glass always clear and bright. This is commonly seen in commercial refrigerators with extremely high display requirements.
Edge sealing: Double sealing is achieved using highly durable butyl rubber and silicone structural sealant.
Function: Absolutely airtight, preventing gas leakage inside the cavity and the entry of external moisture. Once water vapor enters, the glass will fog up inside and the entire piece of glass will be scrapped. This is the key to ensuring the lifespan of insulating glass.
