Frost Glass

Frost glass, as the name suggests, is a process that uses acidic chemical solutions (usually hydrofluoric acid) to corrode the surface of flat glass.
The core principle: Hydrofluoric acid can undergo a chemical reaction with silicon dioxide, the main component of glass, thereby corroding and dissolving the glossy layer on the surface of the glass.
The frost glass surface will transform into a fine frosted effect, presenting a semi-transparent to opaque matte state. When light passes through, it becomes very soft, creating a hazy beauty.
It is essentially a kind of chemically frosted glass.

Fine texture: Compared with physical sandblasting, the frosted texture produced by acid washing is more uniform, fine and soft, with a smooth touch.
Translucent but not transparent: This is its most core function. It can effectively block the view, protect privacy, and at the same time allow natural light to pass through fully, making the space bright but not oppressive.
Scratch-resistant and wear-resistant: The corrosion process occurs at the molecular level, forming a very strong frosted layer that is not easily scratched or worn, making daily cleaning and maintenance convenient.
Aesthetically pleasing and sophisticated: It can create a pure, soft and serene atmosphere of light and shadow, exuding a strong sense of modernity and sophistication.
Easy to clean: Although the surface is matte, the pores are extremely small, making it less likely to accumulate stains. It is easier to maintain than patterned glass with complex textures.

Overall pickling (full sandblasting)
Immerse the entire piece of glass in an acid pool or evenly spray acid solution to achieve a consistent frosted effect as a whole.

Pattern pickling (printed frosted)
Screen printing method: First, print the required pattern on the glass surface with acid-resistant ink, and then acid wash the glass. The areas protected by ink will not be corroded and remain bright. The unprotected areas were corroded into a frosted surface. Finally, wash off the ink to create a glossy pattern with a matte background effect.
The film application method: Cut the acid-resistant PVP film into patterns and apply them to the glass, then undergo acid washing. After completion, remove the film. The effect is similar to that of the printing method.

No post-treatment after tempering: Pickling is a surface treatment and must be carried out before tempering. Because there is a stress layer on the surface of tempered glass, acid washing will destroy its stress, causing the glass to break. Usually, the original sheet of glass is first cut, edge-ground, and acid-washed, and then tempered to obtain "acid-washed + tempered" safety glass.
Customizability: The pattern and the degree of occlusion (grayscale) can be customized according to requirements. The effect needs to be clearly defined during communication.
