Sandblasted glass, as the name suggests, is a type of glass that uses high-pressure air to spray fine sand grains (or other abrasives) at high speed onto the surface of the glass. Through the impact force, the surface of the glass is polished to create a hazy and opaque effect.
It is a common type of surface-treated glass, which is very similar to "frosted glass" in the final visual effect, but the processing techniques are different.
Main features
Translucent but not transparent: This is the most core feature of sandblasted glass. It allows light to pass through gently, providing good natural lighting while effectively blocking the view and protecting privacy.
Fine texture: The surface has been evenly polished, with a warm touch, presenting a hazy beauty similar to frosted glass.
Diverse styles: Various patterns, characters or logos can be created through different processing templates (masks) to achieve rich decorative effects.
Strength remains unchanged: Sandblasting treatment only occurs on the surface of the glass and does not alter the mechanical properties of the glass itself. Its strength is still the same as that of the original sheet glass.
Manufacturing process
Design: First, design the pattern according to the requirements and then make the corresponding hollowed-out protective film (mask).
Film application: Tightly apply the prepared protective film to the clean glass surface. The areas that need sandblasting are exposed, while the rest are covered with protective film.
Sandblasting: The glass is sent into the working chamber of the sandblasting machine, and compressed air is used to spray hard abrasives such as silicon carbide or emery at high speed onto the surface of the glass. The abrasive strikes the exposed glass area, creating a frosted effect.
Cleaning: After sandblasting is completed, remove the protective film and clean the glass surface to remove any remaining sand particles and dust.
The difference from "frosted glass" :
Sandblasting (Sandblasting) : a physical impact method that utilizes high-pressure air and abrasives. More detailed and multi-layered patterns can be created, and even the depth of the frosted finish can be controlled.
Frosting: A chemical corrosion method, involving soaking or applying chemical solutions such as hydrofluoric acid. The treated surface is more uniform, but it is usually difficult to create complex patterns and has poor environmental friendliness.
Most of the so-called "frosted glass" available on the market today is actually achieved through sandblasting.
