Laminated glass

Insulated glass

Core structure

A tough PVB/EVA film is sandwiched between two or more layers of glass and bonded under high temperature and pressure.

Two or more layers of glass are separated by spacers (containing desiccants) around the edges to form a sealed cavity, which is filled with dry air or inert gas inside.

working principle

The film sticks the glass together like "glue".

The air layer (especially inert gases) is a poor conductor of heat and sound.

core function

1. Safety and explosion-proof: Even if it breaks, the fragments will stick to the film and will not splash and hurt people.

2. Anti-theft and anti-intrusion: Difficult to penetrate, time-consuming and noisy to damage.

3. Sound insulation performance: It has a good isolation effect on medium and high-frequency noises (such as human voices and horn sounds), but its effect on low-frequency noise is not as good as that of insulating glass.

1. Thermal insulation: The air layer blocks heat conduction, achieving excellent energy-saving effects. Reduce energy consumption for keeping warm in winter and cool in summer.

2. Sound insulation performance: It has an excellent isolation effect on medium and low-frequency noises (such as traffic noise and machine roar).

3. Anti-condensation: Keep the temperature of the indoor side glass close to room temperature to prevent condensation water from forming.

major defect

Poor heat insulation performance: The glass layer is solid and connected, making it easy for heat to be conducted directly.

Average safety: Once broken, it will shatter into particles and fall off as a whole, posing a safety hazard.

typical application

Typical applications include sunroofs, skylights, shower rooms, floor-to-ceiling Windows, railings, shop Windows, banks, and Windows near sidewalks in high-rise buildings. (All scenarios that emphasize safety or theft prevention)

Ordinary exterior Windows of residential and office buildings, and Windows with requirements for thermal insulation and energy conservation. (The first choice for the vast majority of building exterior Windows)

Price

It is usually more expensive than insulating glass of the same specification.

It offers high cost performance and is the mainstream choice in the market.

How to choose and combine for use?

Modern high-performance doors and Windows usually combine the two technologies to achieve the best overall performance.

Insulating laminated glass

Structure: For instance, "5mm glass + PVB film + 5mm glass" is made into a laminated glass, and then combined with another piece of glass to form a hollow structure (e.g., laminated glass + 12mm air layer + 5mm glass).

Advantages: It features four major functions - safety, anti-theft, heat preservation and sound insulation - and is a standard configuration for high-end doors and Windows.

Application: It is used in residences, schools, hospitals, airports, etc. where there are extremely high requirements for safety, sound insulation and heat preservation.

Select according to your needs

For sealing balconies and ordinary exterior Windows, the primary purpose is to insulate and prevent noise from the road. Double or triple-pane insulating glass is sufficient.

For the roof of a sunroom, large floor-to-ceiling Windows, stair railings, and low-rise Windows facing the street: Laminated glass must be used, with safety being the top priority.

If you live near an airport, high-speed railway station or in an area with extreme weather conditions and have a sufficient budget, the first choice should be insulating laminated glass or composite products such as "triple glass, two chambers + laminated".

In a nutshell:

For heat preservation and insulation, choose hollow glass. For safety and explosion-proofing, choose laminated glass. If you want both, choose "insulating laminated glass".
