There are multiple ways to determine whether glass is laminated glass.
From the appearance, there is a clear layering line between the two layers of laminated glass. Due to the different interlayer materials, the color and transparency are different from ordinary glass, and there is usually a circle of black sealant at the edge. And if the film between two pieces of glass can be seen at the edge of the glass, it is highly likely to be laminated glass. The thickness of the dry laminated adhesive layer is consistent, and there is a uniform adhesive layer in the middle of the glass; Wet laminating often has thick adhesive layers around the edges and thin adhesive layers in the center, and adhesive strips can be seen at the edges of the glass.
Knocking and listening to sound is also feasible. Lightly tap one end of the glass with a hard object. If you hear a dull sound, it is likely to be laminated glass, while a crisp sound may be ordinary glass. This is because the inner plastic layer of laminated glass can absorb the impact force, making the sound dull.
Cutting tests can also be used to determine if there are two layers of glass and one layer of plastic interlayer, which is laminated glass, by cutting a small piece of glass with a glass knife or saw and observing the internal structure of the cutting surface. However, be careful during operation to avoid damaging the glass. If you are unsure, seek professional help.
There is also a strong light irradiation method. Find a small area on the glass, wipe both sides of the glass clean, and then irradiate it with strong light. If you can see but cannot touch small particles, it is laminated glass. If it is clean and transparent, it is ordinary glass.
Using light reflection for identification is also good. When using the sky outdoors or the light reflection from windows indoors, watching the light reflected by the glass slowly changes the observation angle. If using laminated glass, you may see some specific patterns.
These methods can help you determine whether the glass is laminated glass. If you encounter difficult to distinguish situations, do not force yourself to operate. Seek professional help in a timely manner, so that you can accurately know the type of glass.
