What is white laminated glass?
It is a very special type of functional glass with decorative effects. It does not mean that the entire piece of glass is pure white (otherwise it would be opaque), but rather that through a special process, white elements are integrated into the interlayer (such as PVB or SGP interlayer film) between two pieces of glass, thereby achieving a translucent but opaque, aesthetically pleasing and safe effect.
Main features
Translucent but not transparent (privacy protection): This is its most core feature. The white interlayer can effectively scatter light, making the people or scenes behind the glass blurry. While keeping the interior bright, it perfectly protects privacy. The effect is similar to frosted glass, but the texture and options are more diverse.
High safety: It possesses all the safety features of laminated glass. Even if the glass breaks due to external force impact, the fragments will firmly adhere to the interlayer in the middle and will not fly around to hurt people, effectively preventing falling objects and penetration.
Strong decorative effect: White is a neutral, pure and modern color that can be easily integrated into various design styles (such as minimalist, modern, Nordic, industrial style). It can replace traditional walls or partitions, creating a transparent and light sense of space.
Sound insulation performance: The adhesive layer in the middle has a damping effect on sound waves, so white laminated glass has a better sound insulation effect than ordinary single-pane glass.
High customizability: The concentration of white, patterns (such as stripes, spots, gradients, etc.), and textures (such as imitation marble, imitation fabric texture) can all be customized according to design requirements.
Main types and manufacturing processes
The main ways to achieve white laminated glass are as follows:
White PVB laminated glass
- Process: This is the most common method. It is made by using a PVB (polyvinyl alcohol butyraldehyde) film with a white tone as the intermediate layer and placing it together with two pieces of glass in an autoclave for heating, pressurization and bonding.
- Features: Uniform color, overall milky white. The intensity of white can be controlled by the color depth of the PVB film itself.
White EVA laminated glass
- Process: Similar to PVB, but using EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer) film. EVA has a lower processing temperature and is particularly suitable for use in combination with decorative materials such as fabric, paper, and metal mesh.
- Features: It has good light transmittance and flexibility, and can be used as a substitute for PVB in some applications.
The interlayer is built with white materials
- Process: Between two pieces of glass, insert a layer of white dimming film, white silk, white PET pattern film, or even a very thin sheet of white stone (such as snowflake stone), and then bond them with transparent PVB or EVA film.
- Features: This method can achieve very unique decorative effects, such as the texture of silk and the natural veins of stone, making it more artistic.
Colored glazed laminated glass
- Process: First, white ceramic glaze is printed onto the inner surface of a piece of glass through screen printing technology, and then it is permanently adhered to the glass through high-temperature sintering. Then, interlayer this glazed glass with another piece of glass using transparent PVB film.
- Features: The patterns are firm and durable, allowing for the creation of precise logos, geometric patterns, etc. The opacity of white glaze can be very high.
Application scenarios
White laminated glass has a wide range of applications, especially suitable for Spaces that emphasize lighting, privacy and design.
Building exterior walls: Used for the facades of office buildings and commercial centers, they create a pure and unified architectural expression while ensuring indoor lighting.
Indoor partitions: They are ideal choices for office cubicles, meeting rooms, hospital consultation rooms, bathrooms, stair railings, etc. They can not only divide the space but also do not make one feel oppressed.
Doors and Windows: Used for balcony doors, bathroom Windows, entrance doors, etc. that require privacy.
Railings and guardrails: Glass guardrails used for balconies and staircases are safe and aesthetically pleasing.
Decorative elements: Used for background walls, furniture panels (such as wardrobe doors), lamps, etc., to enhance the texture of the space.
